About us EXPO 2027 Promotions in Floriade 2022

We are promoting EXPO 2027 YOKOHAMA in the Japan Exhibit in Floriade 2022, which is held in Almere, the Netherlands from April 2022 to September 2022.

Floriade is an international horticultural expo, which is held in every 10 years in the Netherlands. From Apr 14 to Oct 9, 2022, Floriade is held in Almere, in the suburb of Amsterdam. Its main theme is “Growing Green Cities”.
Floriade is an A1 class horticultural expo, whose class is the same as the one of the expo which will be held in Yokohama in 2027.

In the Japanese Garden (Outdoor Exhibition), “Homecoming Forest Floor Planting” is created. The planting include a combination of spring flower bulbs that start with tulips, followed by perennials including lilies, which were introduced to the Netherlands by Japan. This naturalistic garden expresses the transitions of the seasons in a purely Japanese way. These techniques were learned from the planting in Floriade 2012 in Venlo in the Netherlands, and evolved in a way unique to Yokohama through the activities with the citizens in the Garden Necklace Yokohama in 2017. Such activities in Yokohama are “returning home” and introduced in the Homecoming Forest Floor Planting in Floriade 2022 in Almere. These activities started to spread in the other areas of Japan in their appropriate manner.

In the opportunity of Japan Day (Japan's national day event) on 7 September, colourful flowers were displayed in the main exhibition stand of the Japan indoor exhibition from 2-14 September. In cooperation with the City of Yokohama, we promote Expo 2027 and the host city Yokohama.

Dutch government officials and others were invited to Japan Day. In the morning, an official event by the Floriade organizer was held. In the afternoon, a reception was held in the garden of the Japan Pavilion.

Combinations of spring flower bulbs are planted with the cooperation of the citizens in the parks throughout Yokohama. In the Yamashita Park, which locates in the center of the city, flower bulbs are planted in November last year; at the same time in Japanese Garden in Floriade 2022 in Almere.

In the Yamashita Park, naturalistic garden with perennials is created. People can enjoy transitions of the flowers and plants according to the seasons. In spring, flowers and plants including gymnasters are seen in the garden. In “Homecoming Forest Flower Planting” in Almere, gymnasters from the Yamashita Park are planted.
